What you may need
EMF Meter & Static Meter:
We live between two Natural Magnets, North Pole and South Pole. The Natural Magnetic Field covers the entire planet and it is also given off by electrical equipment (TV’s, Computers, Mobile Phones, etc). It's thought that high levels of EMF can cause people to see things, so if a high level is present then this could account for the sightings. This is a very important tool if you intend on going Ghost Hunting. (no solid evidence has ever shown that they actually do pick up spirit energy) Static Meters work like Ion Meters, they pick up very small mounts of Positive and Negative energy in the air.

Nightvision Video Camera
This is a MUST HAVE item, video evidence of a Haunting is fantastic! dont go ghost hunting without one.
Most home movie cameras have nightvision, it helps you to film in complete darkness.
Torches:
Any torch is fine to use on a Ghost Hunt but you must remember to bring spare batteries as then have been known to drain quite quickly also if your planning on being at your haunted location all night.
Motion Sensors:
Motion Sensors are great to use if your investigating a large area also for leaving in an “Active” room. Motion Sensors come in different shapes and sizes, some use Laser trip wires and others Infra Red. They can be hard to get hold of, Some of the sensors we use at “W.S.P.I.” are home made, using a portable Light Sensor and a sounder taken from a door/window alarm or even a rape alarm. Simply by connecting the sounders power leads to the light bulb fitting in the sensor and when the sensor is triggered the light comes on and the alarm goes off. They can be built for as little as £8 each if you have the know how.
Laser Thermometer:
These are great devices to have, they give an instant temp reading without having to touch the area your are checking. they have come down in price since they first came out and are very easy to pick up. a MUST HAVE!
2-Way Radios:
Radios are used to keep in touch with other members of the group just in case anything goes wrong! They can be picked up for around £25 per pair but prices vary.
35mm, Digital Camera & Motion Sensor Camera:
If you want to be taken seriously you need proof, allsorts of cameras can be used but if you use a 35mm you will have a negative as back-up. Digital Cameras give you an on the spot result so you dont need to wait for your prints, and they are easy to enhance on your PC. We also use a Motion Sensor Digital Camera, left in a locked off area it will take pictures if triggerd by movement.
Voice Recorders
These are used to pick up EVP's (explained below) they are very handy for picking up Spirit voices.
Pen and paper:
If you are undertaking a large investigation you may want to take notes so that you don’t forget anything.
First Aid:
A first aid kit is always a 'must have' on a ghost hunt, If you don’t take one with you make sure you have a mobile phone handy just in case you need to make an emergency call, plus it’s always a good idea to check before hand if the Venue or location has one you can use. Always try to make sure that a first aider is present at all your Hunts.
Top Tips
Since working along side C.O.T.C. I have picked up some handy tips...
Always hunt in a group of at least 2 never on your own… Why?
Because if you see something but you are unable to take a picture of it or record it you have no evidence that it was there unless it is seen by 2 or more people at the same time.
Never rush, always take your time.
Ghost hunting is a lengthy process, just because a house is supposed to be haunted doesn’t mean you will see something straight away.(this works both ways) just because you don’t see something straight away doesn’t mean it’s not haunted.
Don’t Panic!
The reason to go Ghost hunting is to find evidence of ghosts and life after death, there would be no point in going if you are just going to scream and run away (Yvette, Most Haunted) you must collect as much info about what you have seen/can see. Is it male or female? Young or old? Can you make out features or is it just a mist? Etc…
And finally…
Have fun, stay safe and keep out of trouble. Only hold ghost hunts in properties that have granted you permission, let people know where you are going.

Things you can try at home.
If you think your house may be Haunted there are a number of different experiments you could try with household objects. This is commonly known as a “Trigger object” experiment.
Trigger object No.1
You need a piece of paper and an item that fits on to it without overlapping like a key or wooden cross (make one from lolly sticks)
Set up the Experiment in the room you feel is haunted and try not to let anybody enter it.
Place the item onto the paper and draw around it with pen, pencil etc and leave for around 2 hours minimum, you can leave it for 24 hours for best results but make sure the room is locked or at least keep people out of the area and let the Spirits do their work.
If your room is Haunted or Active you should find your Trigger Object has moved from it’s outline.
Trigger Object No.2
You need sand, flour or even talcum powder (any will do) and a small object that moves easily like a marble or toy car.
Sprinkle a small amount of your chosen substance onto a level surface in the “Active” room, gently place your object onto the sprinkled substance making sure not to disturb it, leave it for the same amount of time as the 1st experiment and make sure no one enters the room.
You should find that the object has moved leaving a dragging pattern rather than a rolled pattern.
The experiments can also be done at your place of work if you think something funny is going on, but make sure the cleaner doesn’t move it.
If you have success with the 2 experiments check your photo album for pictures that may contain “Orbs” for an example of an Orb go to the “Your Pictures” page. If you find Orbs make sure the picture was taken at the house your presently in.
EVP Experiment (electronic voice phenomena)
For this you need a tape recorder with an anti-static microphone and a brand new blank tape.
Set up the experiment in a very quiet room and simply ask questions such as “who are you” and “why are you here”, it sounds stupid but in some cases it has worked. It dosen’t matter what questions you ask but try to make them simple, you might not hear a reply but that’s ok. If there is a reply the tape recorder should pick it up because of the EMF’s (Electro magnetic fields). Ghosts disrupt EMF’s when they build their energy and they could be recorded due to the fact that tape recorders record magnetically but no one really knows for certain.
Here is a list of questions if you are stuck for ideas.
1. Is anybody there?
2. Who are you?
3. Are you male or female?
4. Are you young or old?
5. What year did you die?
6. Do you know that you are dead? (Some spirits aren’t aware that they have passed on and they may try to argue the point)
Remember to leave a few seconds gap after you ask each question, once you have asked all your questions you might want to ask them again but maybe in a different order to see if you get the same reply.
(Remember you might be asking more than one ghost)
When you have finished asking all your questions rewind the tape and listen carefully! You might only hear a mumble or a whisper at times but at least it’s a sign that someone is there!

Table Tipping/Tilting
Table Tipping has been around since the Victorian age and is similar to a séance, everybody gathers around a table (sitting or standing) and links hands to build energy. Once the person leading the Table tip is happy that you have built enough energy everybody then places their fingers lightly on the edge of the table top. You then simply ask for contact, you may feel the table pull away or even come towards you if this happens you must then try to establish conversation with the spirit via a simple yes or no answer (example: move for yes don’t move for no). Once you have a conversation in full swing try to get your spirit to lift the table, remember to ask nicely and say please and thank you (manners never hurt anybody).
Remember:
Only do it with people you can trust, many people try to hoax it!
Use all sorts of tables and see what works best for you, but don’t use a table that you can’t lift yourself as the spirit will be using your energy (if you can’t lift it how will the spirit?)

Psychics, Real or Fake?
Many people think that Psychics are frauds, but why? Just because we can’t see what they see dosen’t mean it’s not there. A simple way to explain is with the example of rainbows and the way the colour is given off.
Sunlight contains primary colours that can’t be seen by the naked eye but when it rains the light is "filtered" or distorted (this trick can be done using a hose pipe) and the colours can be seen the same way as when light shines through a prism and the light is split. Just because we can’t see the colours beforehand dosen’t mean they are not there.
So could it be possible that Psychics have a built in "filter" that helps them see ghosts by distorting or splitting what they see? Scientists say that we humans don’t use the whole of our brains, could Psychics be using a part of the brain that the rest of us haven’t discovered?
Who knows but before you judge weather or not Psychics are real you should go and see one live either on stage or at a private meeting, then and only then can you make a true judgment.
How can I get rid of my ghost?
If you are having problems of a ghostly kind many Psychics and Paranormal Investigators believe that if you simply ask the ghost to stop what they are doing it some times works (you must be stern but polite remember you don’t want to anger it). Some ghosts want to pass over to the other side but don’t know how; this is when you would need the help of a Psychic. The Psychic can help guide the spirit toward the light helping them to find eternal peace (or something like that).
ESP
Extrasensory Perception (ESP) A.K.A. The Sixth Sense.
To put it as simple as possible, ESP is being able to guess what card comes next on a pack of ESP cards or being able to predict a major event like an earthquake or even predict who is on the phone.
Very few people have such extreme ESP as to guess every single card correctly on the deck but some people who have ESP can guess 19+ out of 25. Twins are said to have a form of ESP, when one twin is in pain the other twin can feel it. ESP has been tested in labs all over the world and it has been proven to exist. ESP is not a form of witchcraft nor is it evil, testing for ESP can be fun.

You can test for ESP using two people, one person is the sender and the other is the receiver, the receiver has to sit with their back to the sender possibly with their eyes closed if it helps.
The sender must shuffle the pack at least 5 times then pick up the card on the top of the pack and look at the shape on it, the sender has to try to concentrate on that shape and send the image via the mind to the receiver. It sounds wacky but sometimes it works.
You can also test yourself, shuffle the pack and try to predict what the top card is going to be and then check.
